Energy Efficient with Natural Materials

With acerage north of Columbia, Missouri, a couple sought an architect to design a sustainable home to raise their young family. Earth tones, arched openings, and natural materials were primary inspirations, as were views of the pond and open fields. Monarch suggested ways to adjust the client’s initial design to take better advantage of roof facades for future solar arrays and add shading to control heat gain. By working with a pre-selected contractor, Monarch was able to help the clients assess feasilibility of different wall construction methods to arrive at an approach that could balance up-front costs with energy consumption over time.
